Mackenzie locals have decided enough is enough, and have erected their own signs near the intersection of State Highway 8 and 80, the scene of a fatal crash last week.
Volunteer firefighter and Mackenzie District Councillor Paul Hannagan told Mike Hosking the problem is mainly tourists pulling out into the 100 kilometre highway.
"I have googled Chinese road signs and found one that said warning stop ahead, so they have one of them on either side and another one saying dangerous intersection ahead, all the locals have seen crashes or near misses so slow down near the intersection."
