Anti-horse racing demonstrators are threatening to disrupt this afternoon's Melbourne Cup.

Police are planning for possible disruption at Flemington, amid fears trains could also be affected.

The protests follow the release of footage of racehorses being slaughtered.

TAB Australia analyst Nick Quinn told Mike Hosking protesters need to make their point in a respectful way.

"I've been really proud with how the racing industry has responded.

"The protesters have every right to protest, I just hope they show respect to the people attending the races."
