An eco-design advisor is advising people to use fans to keep cool as parts of the South Island are set to reach the early 30's next week.
January is shaping up to be our hottest ever.
Palmerston City Council's Eco-design advisor Nelson Lebo told Mike Hosking fans are great if it's cooler outside than inside.
"Put a fan facing out a window, you're going to force the hot air out of your home. The opposite end of the home open a window and it is going to draw in free, cool air."
He said planting trees is a great option long term, as they give you free shade
