The man charged over the disappearance of Cleo Smith had made a name for himself, as a doll collector.
The four-year-old was found by police on Wednesday, more than two weeks after disappearing from her family's campsite.
The 36-year-old man has appeared in court overnight, charged over the disappearance.
Australian correspondent Murray Olds said Police have described finding a roomful of dolls in his home.
“He’s been a feature on Facebook for a long long time, and on other social media, taking his dolls for drives, doing their hair and taking selfies.”
Neighbours said they saw the man buying nappies from the supermarket.
