The range of ages of those who play video games in this country, now stretches from three-years-old to 90.

The Interactive Games and Entertainment Association has released a report that shows kiwis spent $400 million in the industry last year.

Director Mark Goodacre told Mike Hosking the average gamer in New Zealand is now 33.

"Women are playing because they are getting more involved in family gaming, it's a big growth area for the games industry."

"The older people are playing games to stimulate their brain and also keep them busy."

Mark Goodacre said they're expecting similar spending patterns this year too.
