New Zealand’s 15-year Free Trade Deal with the UK is being hailed a triumph.
We are only about point two of a percent of UK exports so their tariffs are gone from day one.
For us, no tariffs for wine, honey, onions and hoki - while dairy, lamb and beef have increasing tariff free quotas before the tariffs disappear entirely before the 15-year period.
This is expected to add $1 billion to our GDP.
Details are still be finalised over the next few weeks but British High Commissioner to New Zealand Laura Clarke told Mike Hosking this deal was all about doing something meaningful with a long-standing friend and partner.
“It’s a step along our way to joining the comprehensive and progressive Trans Pacific Partnership.”
