There are claims finding an anti-viral treatment could be a "gamechanger" for Covid-19.

An editorial published in today's New Zealand Medical Journal argues the post-lockdown period should be used to find therapies, while we're waiting for the vaccine to happen.

Otago University infectious disease professor Kurt Krause told Mike Hosking you just have to look at the effect anti-virals have had on treating HIV.

"From a situation early in my HIV treatment career, everyone of my patients died within six months. By the time I moved to NZ, I had patients which were undetectable."
