There is some great news for sailing fans.

It's been announced this morning that New Zealand has secured a four-year deal to bring the Sail GP competition to our shores.

After having to be cancelled due to MIQ restraints this year, Lyttleton will host the first Sail GP grand prix season ever held here and then Auckland and Lyttleton will host alternate races in the following seasons.

Head of New Zealand Event and Commercial director at Sail GP Karl Budge told Mike Hosking

“To be able to go to two markets, to spread the economic impact across both Christchurch and Auckland and probably most importantly give more fans an opportunity to come and engage with us is something we’re absolutely thrilled about.”
