A handful of global leaders and technology giant executives will to try and tackle the problem of social media being used to spread extremist ideologies.
Ardern's co-hosting the summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron.
The pledge will not be binding.
Reid says that has led to the summit being organised swiftly.
"In the past six weeks the officials have been working on this, they've managed to get a whole bunch of tech companies, a whole bunch of country leaders, heads of state together to discuss this issues.
"That wouldn't have happen if this was something like a treaty level arrangement."
The summit was announced in the wake of the Christchurch mosque shootings on March 15.
