The Government's being accused of being out of touch, with its current Covid restrictions in Auckland.
Ministers will decide today whether to move the region to Step Three restrictions on Wednesday, allowing bars, restaurants and hairdressers to reopen with public health measures in place.
But the chances appear to be slim, with a spokesperson for the Prime Minister saying a change is unlikely.
Cook Brothers Hospitality Group Managing Director James Arnott told Mike Hosking authorities won't let law-abiding bars and restaurants open, but will let illegal house parties carry on night after night.
“They just have no idea about what’s actually happening on the ground. Having talked to anyone in Auckland, and the rules aren’t being followed, I don’t think I know anyone that’s actually following the rules by the word of the law.”
