Jacinda Ardern says she has a good, professional relationship with Donald Trump.

The Prime Minister met with the US president just a day before the Democrats launched impeachment action.

Ardern told Mike Yardley she she won't weigh in on what she thinks of the president as a person.

"It doesn't matter what my personal opinion of world leaders is.

"It's not my job going around dispensing my opinion on world leaders, it's my job to look after the interests of New Zealand."

Jacinda Ardern maintains she and Trump get along just fine.

"I've had a number of engagements with President Trump, including one on one, over the phone, along with formal and bilateral meetings.

"I have had no trouble with us engaging in the issues we need to be talking about."
