Two of New Zealand's most popular sports will face of in Christchurch for what should be an entertaining, if not slightly uncertain, fixture of cricket.

The Hot Spring Spa T20 Christchurch Black Clash is the brainchild of former Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming and Duco Events founder and director David Higgins.

Both teams – cricket, coached by Stephen Fleming, and rugby, coached by Sir Graham Henry – will have plenty to play for.

Former Blackcap Hamish Marshall told Tim Dower the NZ cricket players association approached him to see if he wanted to take part in the event. With this being the first time the two sporting codes have gone head to head, Marshall is not sure what to expect.

"I'm not to sure how exactly it will work, but I know the pressure will be on the cricket players to make sure we don't get tipped over by the rugby team, which would be a little bit embarrassing."

Kendra Cocksedge is a former rugby and cricket representative, which should make her one of the most formidable players on Hagley Park. She told Tim Dower it has been a while since she has put on the rugby boots.

"I'm a little bit rusty, but hopefully by next Friday I should be fully prepared. We have a lot of talented players in our team, Israel Dagg and Kieran Read for example, so it will be really exciting to see them live in action."

Each team will be packed with international sporting superstars keen to show off their talents with bat and ball, with Brendon McCullum, who has been in sensational form over the last few years in Australia's big bash league, expected to play as well.

Scheduled for Friday afternoon/evening on January 25 at Hagley Park, the fun will start from 4.00pm.
