National's campaign chair says word of an intelligence unit is being misused.

Someone within the caucus leaked details of the unit to Mediaworks, concerned it would be used for dirty politics.

Gerry Brownlee says he told the party's MPs  it was about relying on different innovations to get party messaging out. 

He told Mike Hosking it's offensive to say it would be used for "black ops".

“This is going to be a very different election.

"We don’t know what the rules are going to be what level we will be at or what size gathering will be allowed.”

Gerry Brownlee says if party members notice people from other parties doing anything interesting - National will want to know about it.
