Vaccinations are likely to be saving many lives in Britain's latest surge in Covid case numbers.

The country has recorded another 179 deaths today, on its eighth consecutive day of more than 40-thousand cases.

Brits are now facing the possibility of more restrictions in the coming months, with officials bracing for up to 100,000 cases a day over the winter season.

But Francois Balloux the chair of the University College London Genetics Institute told Mike Hosking there is some good news.

“It’s obviously far too high, but given the number of cases and the numbers of deaths are comparatively lower, so the vaccine does it’s job.”
