A push to get young people into the farming sector.
The agriculture sector is looking to double exports by 2025 - but to do that they'll need about 50,000 more people in the industry.
The Ministry for Primary Industries is looking to kickstart that, spending $3000-$4000 a year on a Future Leader programme.
Fieldays chief executive Peter Nation told Mike Hosking the Minister is opening a careers and education hub this morning at the Fieldays at Mystery Creek.
"That's all about allowing people to come and talk to the educators and the [agriculture] industry and also talk to youth who are already in the industry to understand what the industry's about and get the vibes about entering it themselves."
More than 100,000 people are expected over the four-day event.
Despite a rough season, there's a record number of exhibitors.
Mr Nation said he thinks farmers will still do some spending, and it's set to be another great event.
"I'm just standing at the south end of the event now watching all the cars going in, and it's upbeat, I'm really pleased."
