A road safety expert says lower speed limits may not necessarily save lives.  

Auckland Transport is proposing speed limit changes on a further 800 roads in the city. 

It was revealed this month that deaths on the region's road had increased despite previous speed limit changes.  

Engineering consulting firm WSP technical director Fergus Tate told Mike Hosking there's no simple solution, as people are driving faster. 

"Over the lockdown in particular, the speeds on the roads actually went up, even though the speed limits had gone down."
