A pioneering New Zealand sporting moment could be in the offing if Elliot Johnstone has his way.
After impressing scouts during the Australian Baseball League season with the Auckland Tuatara, the 22-year-old has signed a deal with the New York Mets in America's Major League.
No Kiwi has played at that level.
Johnstone told Mike Hosking what he needs to do to progress through the minor leagues.
“The fastest I’ve been clocked at was 94mph.”
Mike asked whether 97 or 98mph is on the radar.
“Yeah, that’s the goal that’s for sure.”
Johnstone now flies out to the United States to join the franchise at their spring training facility in Florida.
