An Auckland Councillor wants the endorsement of the Labour Party to become the next Mayor of Auckland, but says he'll go it alone if he has to. 

Phil Goff has stood down from the role after nearly six years.

He's downplaying suggestions the party has a problem with him, but says he could win without his support.
