The class-action lawsuit against Volkswagen has kicked off.

About 100,000 UK motorists are taking the German automaker to court over an emissions scandal.

In 2015, Volkswagen admitted 11 million cars worldwide had software that reduced emission readings.

Bloomberg reporter Eddie Spence told Mike Hosking it's a huge case, which could have major ramifications.

He says it puts the consumers in a position of power they've never been in before.

"This is 100,00 motorists taking on Volkswagen , which is the ever example of a class action lawsuit we've seen in the UK."
