A lesson from the United Kingdom to not open up before enough people are vaccinated against Covid-19.
Here in New Zealand, anyone over 18 who's been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 for six months, will be able to get a third jab after November 29.
In the UK, not enough people are receiving their boosters on time.
Less than 69 percent of the population is double-vaxed.
Leeds University virologist Dr Stephen Griffin told Mike Hosking the virus is spreading, especially in young people, but people are complacent.
“The reason we need boosters is because we’ve allowed the virus to run, unchecked. Until we had our sufficient vaccine coverage to ensure that that could be done safely.”
