An early childhood education expert says private providers should be given incentives to up their game.
Child Poverty Action Group has released a research paper showing private operators are providing lower quality services, across a range of indicators.
Early childhood education expert Dr Mike Bedford told Mike Yardley we should do away with the current licensing system, which has no incentives for quality.
"We should shift to a system where the Government takes responsibility by becoming the national provider."
Bedford says that would give a much higher level of accountability.
