There’s doubt the latest proposed lift in the minimum wage will do enough to help workers. Â
The Government's increasing the minimum wage by 2% to $23.15 an hour from April.Â
Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke Van Velden had recommended a rise of just 1.3%. Â
Victoria University School of Governance and Policy Studies senior research fellow Dr Michael Fletcher told Mike Hosking that at a minimum, it should rise at the same rate as inflation.Â
Inflation is currently sitting at 4.7%. Â
He says the Government says beneficiaries should get increases in line with the Consumer Price Index, so the lowest paid workers should get the same. Â
