Senior doctors say there's so much junk food advertising people no longer have a real choice.
The Association of Salaried Medical Specialists says there should be a ban on the advertising of unhealthy food to children and a tax on soft drinks.
Intensive care specialist Dr David Galler told Mike Yardley the food industry is profiting enormously from selling junk food at cheap prices to certain communities.
He says the whole community of south Auckland has been abandoned to the fast food industry.
"It's much cheaper and easier to go to KFC and feed the family than it is to do anything else."
