Time may be on our side, when it comes to fending off the latest variant of Covid-19. 

Many countries are now recording cases of the Omicron variant, first detected in South Africa. 

In Australia, two cases have been picked up at the border. 

Cambridge University virologist Dr Chris Smith says told Mike Hosking while the variant is concerning, the fact it was detected so early is very reassuring. 

“It’s much better to be confronting the devil you do know, than one that creeps up and catches you with your trousers down, so we must salute the southern African scientist who spotted this.”
