Testing capacity may have to be improved to ensure people can get in and out of Auckland easily, this Christmas.
A boundary is likely to remain in place around the region with people being required to book a travel time, prove their vaccination status, and provide a negative Covid test.
But the Government is still working out how the system would work, and how the testing system would cope with the increased demand.
Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield told Mike Hosking while almost a third of test results aren't back within 24 hours, it's a constant work in progress.
“That’s something we’re constantly working on and it’s a daily conversation about how we can speed up the turnaround time.”
