Desmond Shum was born in Shanghai and raised in Hong Kong; he grew up poor but rose through the ranks in China to become a successful businessman.  

He and his now ex-wife Whitney Duan developed the largest air cargo facility in China.  

But that all came crashing down in 2017 when Whitney disappeared.  

Desmond is now telling his story in his new book ‘Red Roulette: An insider's story of wealth, power, corruption, and vengeance in today's China’. 

Then the story changes again, the day before the book was due to be published he gets a call from his ex-wife pleading with him not to publish the book.  

He hadn't heard from her since she disappeared.
