David Seymour says a Christchurch school accused of serving mouldy lunches should've waited for an official investigation before speaking out.

Haeata Community Campus found the spoiled meals after some students had already eaten them last Monday.

New Zealand Food Safety has found the lunches intended for the previous week were likely mixed into that day’s servings.

Associate Education Minister Seymour told Heather du Plessis-Allan the school had a teacher-only day four days earlier, so no other lunches had been delivered.

He says some lunches were put in a cafeteria area, which students had access to, and a few had been there longer than they should have been.
