David Parker: 'Shovel-ready' projects not as simple as starting tomorrow

A series of 'fast tracked' infrastructure projects are ready to go, but still need resource consents.

The Government's unveiled 11 projects that have been brought forward to create jobs and boost the economy.

Environment and Economic Development Minister David Parker told Mike Hosking it's not as simple as starting tomorrow.

"No doubt there'll be some contracting issues for the larger projects. The legislation itself lasts for two years, and there are another two tracks that other projects can be added to."

The list of projects includes Auckland's Skypath, electrification of rail from Papakura to Pukekohe - and a roading upgrade in South Auckland.

Parker says the Skypath is a good project.

"It all takes a bit of traffic off the road and reduces the cost of congestion, both in terms of the delays avoided and the extra cost of the road upgrade if you don't have that alternative."

He says the 11 projects are balanced with roading and rail funding as well.
