New Zealand Rugby Players Association boss Rob Nichol insists a compromise will be made - it's just a matter of when.

The Silver Lake deal was this week unanimously approved by the provincial unions, with the NZRPA remaining the last stumbling block with mediation to continue in weeks to come.

Nichol says they just need to look closer at it, particularly when it comes to downside protection.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand flag was waving high atop the IndyCar podium at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Defending series champion Scott Dixon has taken the chequered flag after starting third on the grid, handing him the championship lead.

His compatriot Scott McLaughlin has finished second, grabbing his maiden IndyCar podium in just his fourth career race.

Dixon says it was great to have a Kiwi in his rear-view mirror.

For McLaughlin, he admits he's never been so happy with a second placing.
