Teachers may be having to dip further into their pockets.

Currently, registration for three years of teaching sits at $220 but the teaching council is looking at increasing that to $470.

Albany Senior High School principal Claire Amos told Mike Hosking other professionals such as midwives and social works have to pay a similar amount to the proposed increase.

"I wish teachers weren't in this position. I would love for them not to be having to dip into their pockets.

"But I also see the teaching council is doing really important work. It's part of us being in this profession and paying our way."
