The Green party's latest announcement for students is coming under scrutiny.
The tertiary education policy includes a universal allowance for all full time students, working up to a guaranteed minimum income of $325 per week.
Public transport costs would be halved, or completely free for students with a Community Services Card.
Universities New Zealand director Chris Whelan told Mike Hosking it may move a few votes, but it won't help students who've lost part time jobs, and need that money now.
He says about 60 percent of students use part time work to pay for their accommodation.
