A blueprint for a trans-Tasman bubble could be used to reopen our borders to the rest of the world.

The bubble blueprint's been presented to the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and Australia, and could be implemented within weeks if given the green light.

It was developed by the Trans-Tasman Safe Border Group, which is made up of a team of 40 experts.

The bubble was aimed at doing away with the need for a 14-day quarantine but information released by the group today to the public has no details on the need to wear masks and other health measures at airports.

The timing of new arrangements and the health requirements would be up to governments.

Tourism Industry Aotearoa chief executive Chris Roberts is part of the group, and told Mike Hosking the plan would be to replicate the bubble to other countries.

He says discussions would only happen if countries have Covid-19 under control.
