How opening the border to Australians could save thousands of jobs

The tourism industry boss says a trans-Tasman bubble would have the potential to save thousands of jobs in the sector.

The chief executive of Auckland Airport has raised the idea of opening the border to Australians.

Tourism Industry Aotearoa chief executive Chris Roberts told Mike Hosking New Zealanders and Australians make up three quarters of our tourism market

He says at that level we could save tens of thousands of jobs.

Roberts says there are hopes the borders can open to Australians in time for the New Zealand ski season.
