The Government is being told it needs to be cautious with Firearms Prohibition Orders.
The proposed Orders would ban certain criminals from being anywhere near firearms, and give police greater powers to investigate them.
Police Association President Chris Cahill says it's practical on paper, with lots of people that would meet the criteria.
He told Mike Hosking in reality, if too many are issued, the orders won't be taken seriously.
"Look at gang members alone, they have increased by 26 per cent in the last two years."
"There are a lot of bad people out there who would meet the criteria."
