A Maori charter school's disappointed with the mixed messages it's receiving regarding its future.

New legislation's being unveiled to abolish charter schools, and Minister Chris Hipkins wants existing schools to close of their own accord.

Te Taumata Trust runs a school in Rotorua.

General Manager Roana Bennett told Mike Hosking, the Minister's statement about closing is very different to what they've heard from the Prime Minister.

"We've been saying, as long as you're teaching with registered teachers, as long as you're teaching to the New Zealand curriculum, you'll be okay.

"Yet we have the minister of education out on his own saying, close, or I'm going to close you."
