A new political party says Wellingtonians are sick of carparks being slashed for cycleways.
The Wellington First Party is looking to run a mayoral candidate and local ward candidates in next year's local body elections.
Party founder Bryan Weyburne told Mike Hosking proposals for a cycleway connection through the southern suburbs will practically spell the end of Wellington.
But he says what set him off was the Michael Fowler Centre carpark being used to temporarily house the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
He said the current council is taking Wellington back into the Stone Age by getting rid of parking spaces.
"So we will hold a public meeting and see if we can find a mayoral candidate but we will certainly be pitting up candidates to get rid of the mob that's in there now."
"They're trying to get rid of every carpark they possible can and push us into the stone age."
