It's hard to believe the famed Lord of the Rings movie franchise turns 20 today.

It was December 10 2001 when the Fellowship of the Ring had its global premiere and the three movies went on to rack up 17 Oscars out of 30 nominations and the Return of the King still holds the record for most Oscars with 11 along with Titanic.

It launched careers for actors, we created an entirely new tourism experience with Hobbiton and the country became synonymous with the fictional Middle Earth.

Kiwi actor Bruce Hopkins was a part of it all; he played Gamling, King Theoden's right hand man and Bruce joined Mike Hosking.
