Political commentator Ben Thomas joins Mike Hosking to talk about the new Coalition New Zealand Party, which will be led by Hannah Tamaki, wife of Destiny Church's Brian Tamaki.

Despite the party's strong connection to Destiny Church, it will not be a Christian party.

Hannah said at the party's launch yesterday that it would be strong on "family values".

She was however light on, with no mention of candidate names or which electorates would be fought. Even Brian was unsure whether he would stand or not.

Thomas says regardless of the party's policies, it will be an uphill battle.

"It's impossible to disentangle personalities like Brian Tamaki, who quite clearly are stranding behind this."

"Hannah Tamaki has said in her interviews 'she's her own woman, this isn't Brian's vehicle' but Bran announced it."
