National MPs are meeting in Wellington this morning, to discuss an anonymous text relating to Simon Bridges' expenses.

The text message was sent to both Bridges and Speaker Trevor Mallard.

Sources say the text is extensive, sent from a disposal phone, and purports to be from the person who leaked Bridge's travel expenses.

Political editor Barry Soper told Mike Hosking the author of the text has asked not to be publicly identified, due to previous mental health problems.

"It's as I understand, not a National MP. It could be any nutter who has decided to get on the phone, send a text and say that Simon Bridges is arrogant."

Bridges is expected to respond to the reports this morning.

Mallard is refusing to comment.
