Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison will face some confronting questions about trans-Tasman relations, during today's talks with Jacinda Ardern.

The Australian prime minister is making a brief visit to Auckland today.

Jacinda Ardern said issues like regional security, marine biosecurity and asylum seekers will be making talking points.

However, political editor Barry Soper told Mike Hosking the rights of New Zealand Australians will inevitably come up as well.

"That old story about so called Kiwi criminals being deported from Australia to New Zealand is one that will be pretty high on the agenda."
