This week’s ASB Good as Gold winner is the Karaka Lakes Christmas Committee. Nominator Denys writes “Every year, the Karaka Lakes community hosts a free Christmas Lights show. It's an hour long, and locals also provide Santa Sleigh rides for the kids, pictures with a life size reindeer and Christmas sing-a-longs. It has become so popular that Auckland Transport now requires a resource consent to run this event. The locals have come up with $8,000 to pay for the consent itself, but still need to $5,500 to cover a traffic management plan.

Shelley and Tony Burke have led the committee behind the event for the past few years, and have never complained putting their hands in their pockets if need be. However, this year, because of council requirements this cost is starting to get out of hand. Any contribution ASB could make to the cost would be greatly appreciated!”

So far locals have raised $1198. ASB Bank loves the community spirit behind the event, so they'll cover the remaining $4302 so the South Auckland community can continue to enjoy this awesome Christmas event!
