Like all those who know her, the netball community is grappling with the news of Tania Dalton's condition.
Life support for the former Silver Fern has been turned off in Auckland City Hospital.
The 45-year-old suffered a ruptured aneurysm while playing touch rugby last Thursday, resulting in massive blood loss and oxygen deprivation.
Netball New Zealand chief executive Jennie Wyllie told Mike Hosking it's a difficult time for everybody.
"To be fair, everyone was devastated. It's a pretty tight community and it was just a complete shock and not news anyone wanted to hear.
"No one sees it coming, particularly someone so young, vibrant and funny. She's certainly a character in sport."
