A farmer is being commended for rescuing his cow from a risky cliff face near Whanganui.
The cow had been stuck, teetering on a ledge in the middle of a cliff high above a beach in Mowhanau Village.
It was a race against the incoming tide, but the animal's owner managed to coax it down - with the help of his dogs.
Local woman Sarah told Larry Williams people were gob-smacked to see the cow there - and even more impressed when the farmer rescued it.
"People really underestimate the skill of our kiwi farmers and their dogs, to get that cow down without breaking a leg is a miracle."
