A new report from the non-profit Education Hub organisation has raised concerns about what it calls a "deeply worrying" decline in literacy levels.

Less than 65 percent of 15-year-olds have basic proficiency in reading and maths.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins says the Government is working hard to turn around the trend, but it takes time.
