As inflation continues to be the highest in 30 years, those in the alcohol brewing industry are worried it'll put many out of business, and leave consumers footing the bill.Â
Those in the industry are saying adding a 6.9% increase on top of the excise tax they currently pay is comparable to hiring 2–3 more staff members. Â
In 2021 New Zealanders paid 1.22 billion dollars in an alcohol excise tax, which is set to rise significantly this year. Â
