It’s probably about time that we dealt with the New Zealand Public Party, because these guys are regularly promoting loopy ideas but the claim they made yesterday is so unbelievably stupid, its actually mind-boggling.
Now by the way, if you don’t the NZPP, this is the party Jami-Lee Ross has officially hooked up with. This is also the party calling Covid a ‘plandemic’, which is to say they believe Covid is the result of a global agenda of state control. Their policies include questioning 5G, vaccinations and fluoridation.
Yesterday, the party claimed that Huawei sponsored Labour’s campaign launch at the weekend, and suggested this either has, or may, lead to the Government pushing 5G into our population.
Now, the reason they think that Huawei sponsored the launch – which it didn’t – is because “Blatantly, HUAWEI is branded over everything on the film footage.”
Let’s be clear. Huawei is not a sponsor of the Labour Party event launch. It is a sponsor of the NZ Herald live stream that someone in the NZ Public Party was obviously watching.
I’m a little surprised something so basic got them so confused. But now it’s out there as a truth on the party’s Facebook page: shared, at last count by 539 people, commented on by 890 people, who said things like “PM JA is EVIL’ and “Sold to the communist” and “ i hate to say i told you so”. People seem to be buying this stuff.
I have major concerns about the responsibility with which this party is approaching facts, and about the brain power behind these claims. But, we’d be fools if we wrote this party off. Videos on the Facebook page get tens of thousands of views. The party leader, Billy TK Jnr, has hundreds turn up to hear him speak at public events.
He even showed up in the preferred PM polls at one per cent - same as Winston peters.
It actually shouldn’t surprise anyone that a conspiracy-theory party is doing well. Conspiracy theories tend to flourish at times of uncertainty, and current research has found lockdowns and other government restrictions have led to more conspiracy theories because people have more time on their hands to search the internet.
These guys are here. They have followers. We have to live with it. My only hope is yesterday’s claim is just so stupid it’ll snap some of the more rational supporters back to reality.
