The First Word: New Princess, Kiwis Win and Floyd Mayweather

Royal watchers are very excited over the new Princess.

Kate and William presented the new baby to the world like a nanosecond after Kate gave birth. The psychologists and obstetricians have been wheeled out here for their expert opinions.

Apparently the Princess will be worth billions to the UK economy. The shawl the Princess was rapped in is selling off the charts. New Zealand is sending gifts of wool. Where they end up I have no idea.

No question Kate and William are much loved around the world. The response to the new princess is testament to that. Indeed there's not much not to like about them.

Labour leader Andrew Little should have shut up - he has just returned from the UK and said he wasn't there to fan-girl the impending new arrival.

Just hours after the new royal was born, Little said NZ should have a Kiwi head of state. That would be a politically appointed one, no doubt.

KIWIS

The Kiwis' win over the Kangaroos in the league was a watershed moment in the history of the game.

The Kiwis have over the years managed to pull the odd win off, but Australia always dominated. Year in year out, they would hammer the Kiwis. Not any more.

Their win last night was the third straight win over the Kangaroos. Australia's dominance is over.

The Aussie legends look tired. Age has taken over and a young Kiwi side humiliated them. It was the end of an era for the Kangaroos. I think there might be a message for the All Blacks selectors in there somewhere.

BOXING

The loud-mouth domestic violence abuser Floyd Mayweather beat Manny Pacqiao in the richest boxing match in history.

The crowd in his home country booed him before and after the fight while the crowed cheered when Pacqiao landed punches.

Mayweather was the villain for all the right reasons. He's a woman beater - a record of domestic abuse that includes seven assaults on five separate women  that resulted in arrest or citation, and several other incidents in which law enforcement was called in to deal with alleged threats of violence.

I really don't know what the fascination was about this boxing match. All I know is that Mayweather is a thug - and he's a few hundred million better off.
