Here’s a new concept: pawternity leave.

A food outlet owner in the UK recently took to social media to ask advice on whether he should allow a staff member to take time off to look after a new puppy.

There were strong opinions on both sides but it’s worth noting some New Zealand businesses are offering pawternity leave or employees days off to tend to their fur babies.

Remuneration expert Una Diver told Andrew Dickens as we look at the current employment situation, organisations are already looking at employee value propositions to increase productivity.

“Pawternity or pet-friendly workplaces might just be part of that solution for some people.”
