A former immigration minister says that the National Party would have been well aware of the Karel Sroubek case when they were in office.
National MP Michael Woodhouse has criticised current Minister Iain Lees-Galloway for granting residency to Sroubek, despite drug convictions
However, Tuariki Delamere, who served as Sroubek’s lawyer in 2008, told Larry Williams that if Woodhouse wasn’t aware of the case when he was Minister, then Immigration New Zealand is woefully deficient.
“But these days, seeing as anyone who gets a drink drive conviction, then I can’t believe that the department didn’t advise Mr Woodhouse.”
Delamere says that he does find it unbelievable that Sroubek has been allowed to stay.
