Rugby players heading to next year's world cup in Japan have been told to cover up tattoo's to avoid causing offence.
World Rugby advised the teams, as well as supporters travelling for the event, as body markings are still considered to be associated with the Yakuza gang.
However, a Kiwi working in Japan, believes this shouldn't be a problem for most players, as they are aware of cultural norms wherever they travel.
Head of Japan CSN Sport and Entertainment Tim Harvey told Larry Williams he players understand to respect new countries they are going into.
"Majority of the Japanese understand that it is actually a cultural thing and it's not Yakuza. It's probably a bit old school really but they haven't changed it."
Harvey says some people are scared of those with body markings.
"Even now if you go to hotels, pools or bath houses, there will be signs outside saying you're not welcome if you've got tattoos, or please cover up your tattoos if you are coming into the bath house."
